Heidi Horstmann Koester, PhD

Dr. Koester is co-investigator on D2 Development of TR Tools for Communications Technology. She is the president of KPR and has worked in assistive technology as a clinician and researcher since 1986.  She received an Sc.B. in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University, followed by Masters’ degrees and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.  She has worked in direct service delivery as a rehabilitation engineer at the University of Michigan Health System, with a particular focus on computer access and augmentative communication.  As the founder of KPR, she has led research and development projects within computer access and alternative interfaces for people with disabilities, developing software tools that improve service delivery and enhance the end user interface.  Dr. Koester is the Treasurer of RESNA, an Associate Editor of Assistive Technology, and is active as a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals and proposal panels.
