Bambang Parmanto, PhD

Dr. Parmanto is task leader on the Infrastructure Core: Informatics Infrastructure for Supporting Telerehabilitation Services in Clinical and Natural Environments, D3 Technology Implementation Projects (TIPs) and D4 Outcomes Measures and Uniform Data Set. He is an Associate Professor of Health Information Management and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.  He holds a visiting professorship at Kobe University, Japan. He is an internationally recognized expert in Internet technologies, data mining, and health informatics. He is currently a chair of the research committee of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). His current research projects include technologies that can transform the Web to make it more universally accessible, the development of novel integrated portal and Internet-based videoconferencing to support telerehabilitation, and the development of very large rehabilitation outcome database. He was the PI of NIDRR-funded DRRP on Information Technology for Independence and Task PI for NIDRR-funded RERC on Telerehabilitation.  His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA), Microsoft Research, State of Pennsylvania, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh, and his BS in Computer Science from Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia.
