The research and development area of the RERC on Telerehabilitation has six task descriptions. The 'R' tasks are primarily research and are organized according to the selection criteria for design of research activities while the 'D' tasks focus on development and are organized according to the selection criteria for design of development activities. Each task has multiple aims and, in some circumstances, an R may contain elements of development and vice versa. A good example of the former is Task R3 - Remote Accessibility Assessment of the Built Environment for Individuals Who Use Wheeled Mobility Devices as it includes significant development activities in addition to hypothesis based research for evaluation of technological developments. As a general rule, all of our R&D tasks have implementation and/or commercialization as their ultimate goal. The fundamental difference between the R&D here is that the research tasks generally begin with evaluation of technology that has already been developed whereas development tasks aim to create technology and then evaluate it.
