Undergraduate and Summer Internship Program

Opportunity

The RERC’s Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to engage in a variety of educational, clinical, and research-training activities at a state-of-the-art research facility at the University of Pittsburgh.

Engineering and clinical opportunities are available in many research areas related to the development and evaluation of new technologies and procedures to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Students are assigned to work on one or more projects throughout their internship depending on their interests and the current research of RERC SCI and RERC TR.

Benefit

The RERC’s Internship Program is the opportunity that helps students explore the field of rehabilitation engineering programs and help to determine the career direction for their future.

The internship is typically 10 -12 weeks in duration, 30 - 40 hours each week at $8.50/hour.

Interns are provided didactic training in research methodology, scientific writing and presentation, research design and protocol development, while working semi-independently on their projects. RERC investigators provide hands on training, they backgrounds include: research scientists, physiatrists, clinicians, engineers, and expert machinists. Each student prepares a scientific paper and presents their project to the RERC’s investigators, staff, and students.
